About Me
My relationship with synchronized swimming came as a surprise! I had tried multiple sports and hadn’t fallen in love with any. My mom wanted me to try something new; knowing I had already completed swim lessons and enjoyed gymnastics, she thought it would be cool to have me experience synchronized swimming. The sport marries both swimming and dancing, but in the water. I told her I was interested, headed out to our local YMCA, and fell in love with the sport. As a member of a nationally-competitive team, I was able to meet new friends, make unforgettable memories, and master a unique set of skills.
From the outset, I wanted to excel in the sport. But, I became serious in synchro when I was in 5th grade, and just 10 years old. I began to try out for the United States National Team. Although I never made it, the lessons I learned along the way enabled me to continue advancing in my sport. The competition was unreal. It takes a lot of hard work, significant time commitment, and determination mentally to try out for the team.
The sport was not without sacrifices. At least once a year, I had to miss about 15-20 days a school year just to travel and compete at meets. Because synchronized swimming is such a small sport, many competitions are further away; there aren’t many athletes who play the sport. For example, there are only two synchronized swimming teams in all of my home state of Connecticut. Two!
However, as I matured, I sadly fell out of love with what I thought was my passion. When COVID-19 struck the world, I began to see synchronized swimming in a different light. Finally having the time to self reflect within quarantine, I realized I was burnt out.
I took a break from swimming my sophomore year of high school to explore other hobbies. I tried volleyball, but was not in love with that either. Towards the end of sophomore year and into Summer 2021, I realized that I needed to do some self discovery. I discovered my love for nature, meditation, reading, spirituality, friends, traveling, walking, eating healthily, volunteering, music, and the simplicity I took for granted in my everyday life.
I’m thrilled to be taking you along this journey as I continue to try new activities, get involved in my community, and document the things I love. I hope that as you follow me on my quest, you’ll develop an insight into the many avenues through which we can embrace life.
